When your timing belt breaks, you aren’t going to go very far. So, if you see some of these signs of wear and tear then you’ll know it is time to replace the timing belt. If you don’t heed the warning then you just might end up on the side of the freeway waiting for the tow truck.
Replace the Timing Belt
You’ll get signs that it is time to replace the timing belt. If you don’t pay attention then it’ll seem to come out of nowhere. Your car will still be running, but you won’t be able to get it to go. But most of the time you’ll hear or see things that let you know it is time.
When you’re hear it, you’ll be fairly sure nobody put a bomb with a very loud clock under your hood. You’ll more like think “hey… what’s that noise?” This is a sound that timing belt will make when it isn’t doing its job properly.
If the engine starts sputtering then it could be a couple of things, one being the timing chain. When the timing chain is old it will sometimes lose its rhythm and allow a valve to open or close at the wrong time, creating a misfire.
If you see an oil leak in your driveway, put a big piece of cardboard under the car to catch it. When you see the drops of oil, look in the engine compartment to see if it is coming from the front of the motor. It could be that the timing chain cover is loose and is allowing oil to drip.
